Wednesday 1st January - bike ***** - Sunrise bike ride, Felixstowe – sunny and cold.

Mags and I actually stayed up to see the new year in, first watching the great Billy Elliot with the fantastic Marc Bolan and T. Rex soundtrack carefully avoided the dreadful Jools Holland, midnight came and we went out the front of our house to listen to the ships hooting at the docks but sadly didn’t hear any but loads of fireworks and back indoors to catch the end of the London firework show. Very dull really and seen it all before, about time they came up with a more environmentally friendly alternative and how Sidney could go ahead with there bridge display while half of Australia goes up in flames, a tad insensitive! We had some top banter to our son Rob with some pics/video of Grandson Arlo who finally went to bed at 2.15! we lasted to 1.30 and made plans to get up to bike down and see the first sunrise of 2020. The weather forecast didn’t help, one said wall to wall sunshine while the other said cloudy all day but with sunrise at 8.03 we didn’t have to get up early so could make our mind up in the morning? Waking just after seven with the sky looking clear the bike ride was one! Wrapping up against the chill Mag and I set off down the hill to the prom where I got my first pics of the lovely sky. There was a bank of cloud on the horizon which would delay the suns appearance so we biked along the very quiet prom. We saw some people in a shelter with a bottle of champagne waiting for the sun to show its face! At the Fludgers we took the road around to the cliff top and parked our bikes on the last bench. It was here we watched a sunrise last year and again the nice lady who owns the last beach hut arrived form Ipswich. We had a lovely hour chatting to her, well having a moan really as the sun peaked above the clouds. I got some nice pics before heading for home, biking along the cliff top to the beach huts where we meet some old friends and spent another hour catching up until we were absolutely frozen! Then returning home for breakfast and to warm up before our friends the Hurrells arrived for a cuppa. I managed to get some lovely pics of the morning and on sharing them on a few local Facebook pages got loads of likes and some lovely comments too – nice start to the new year!
